Vacuum Line Cold Traps
The SES328 family of vacuum line cold traps is designed to help quantify the rate and volume of water extraction during the transformer vacuum dry out process. Sublimated water vapor condenses and freezes when it contacts the trap's extremely cold surfaces, providing a direct means of measuring moisture removal.
SES328 Highlights
- High-Efficiency Trap Design
- Standard Vacuum Bypass for Continuous Evacuation
- Stainless Steel Trap Construction
- Low Pressure Drop Design
- Condensing Action Enhances Dry Out Performance

SES328 cold traps provide a practical method of quantifying moisture removal during transformer dry out operations. Refrigerated and liquid nitrogen cooled systems are available depending on pressure range, trapping efficiency, and installation requirements.

SES328N-9.25-BP | Liquid Nitrogen Cold Trap
SES328N-9.25-BP
Liquid nitrogen cooled vacuum line water vapor cold trap.
- Portable Dolly-Mounted Design
- High Efficiency (-195°C)
- 9.25 Liter Nitrogen Capacity
- 2.8 Liter Average Trapping Capacity
- Standard Vacuum Line Bypass
- Two Wheel Portable Design
- Available in 3" and 4" Connections
- Manual Thimble Defrost
- Optional Redundant Thimble
- Safety Accessories and LN₂ Dispensing Hose Included

The liquid nitrogen trap uses bottled liquid nitrogen as the chilling media to provide extremely low temperature trapping surfaces. Water and oil vapors condense onto the liquid nitrogen cooled thimble where they freeze and are later thawed and measured to quantify extraction rates.
A standard bypass arrangement permits continuous evacuation while measurements are being taken. The nitrogen trap is compact, inexpensive, highly efficient, and essentially maintenance free.
SES328R | Refrigerated Cold Traps
Standalone and Integrated Refrigerated Cold Traps
- -80°C Trapping Temperature (Two Stage Cascade)
- -43°C Trapping Temperature (Single Stage)
- Automatic Defrost Cycle
- Standard Vacuum Line Bypass Piping
Refrigerated cold traps are available with both single and two-stage refrigeration systems. Traditional two-stage cascade systems maintain trap temperatures near -80°C and can efficiently trap water vapor at pressures as low as 0.15 Torr.
Single-stage systems provide temperatures of approximately -45°C and can efficiently trap vapor at pressures down to approximately 0.5 Torr. These systems are typically installed between the backing pump and vacuum booster.
Automatic defrost cycles are included on both versions. The cascade version provides superior trapping efficiency during deep vacuum operations.
Mounting Options
The SES328R refrigerated cold trap can be supplied as a stand-alone skid mounted package, a cargo trailer mounted package, or integrated into the external vacuum line of a SES320 insulating fluid conditioning system.
Skid Mounting
Built-to-order skid-mounted equipment can normally be built to meet customer footprint and access requirements. Consult SESCO with special requests.Dry Van Trailer Mounting
The size and weight capacities of a dry van trailer accommodate a wide variety of options and equipment accessories. Dry van trailer packages are specifically engineered to accommodate equipment loading axle weight distribution regulations.Cargo Trailer Mounting
All cargo trailers are specifically engineered to accommodate equipment load, weight distribution, to provide optimum towing conditions. Cargo trailer weight capacities (GVRW) range from 4,000 to 16,000 Lbs. SESCO will provide the cargo trailer size and weight capacity options available for the system being quoted.
